Whats the difference between clear and coated drum heads?
and what would be for a pop-punk / pop-rock sound like Blink-182
Well, there are alot of different drum heads. A "coated" drum head is usually for protection, allthough it has a huge impact on sound as well. It is also know as a batter diped head, usually for your snare. A "clear" drum head can be a one-ply or two-ply depending on how hard you hit them. Evans also makes a hydrolic head (which I personally use, they are black) which has oil in between the plys.(they come in blue also) Every drum head is different from the other, it takes some time to find the one thats best for your style of playing. My first band was a "punk" band and I loved using Remo Pinstripe for the toms and bass drum and an Evans batter-diped snare. Also Aquarian makes very nice heads but I tend to destroy them. Don't forget the bottom heads are just as important as the tops.
