how can I clean my conga head?
I got a conga that is like 40 years old and the guy I got it from said it is a very expensive head and that I shouldn't replace it. Is there any way I could make it white again and make it less dry?
You can't clean it since it is REAL cow or bison hidel skin that is mostly used for Conga heads. But if yo want to maintain it...
After playing, always loosen the tension lug a half-turn clockwise. Rub a small amount of lotion with lanolin into the conga head. This helps the drum maintain the best possible conga sound. It will also help the conga produce more volume and better tonality.
Use the chamois cloth to wipe down the conga after playing. This will remove any sweat from the metal parts, as sweat can corrode the metal over time.
