How can I make a cymbal stand stop buzzing when I hit it?
It's a pearl boom stand, and I can tell that buzzing is coming from the mount. It has a metal disc-looking plate that keeps the felt from slipping. there is also a plastic tube that i guess goes over the metal to prevent slipping, but something is still buzzing. I'm guessing the metal plate's the perpetrator because it's touching other metal, and sways when I hit the cymbal, but I tried tightening the stand up, and it still vibrates.
You probably have a light cymbal stand and it is more likely vibrating when hit the cymbal.
I you can not replace your cymbal stand preferably to a heavier one, there are several thing you can do in the following order or as the whole.
1- Replace the foam or rubber washer.
2- Replace the washer, rivets with nuts and bolts.
3- Wrap some duct tape around the bottom of the upper post that goes inside of the lower post as a cushion to eliminate rattling against the lower post.
