A Review of Marineland 350 Canister Filter
For those with medium to large aquariums, you should invest in canister filters. A large number of fish means that there is a lot of waste being produced and only a canister filter can deal with this volume. Canister filters perform both mechanical and chemical filtration.
Designed to offer chemical and mechanical filtration effectively and efficiently, the
marineland 350 filter
is compact and lightweight. The filter features the unique Power Kleen Gravel Washer and an attached BIO-Wheel Pro for biological filtration. It is among the most popular canister filters.
The filter is fitted with an easy to clean and re-usable micron pleat cartridge, that is used trap the smallest particles. As a good practice and to make changing the cartridge easier, invest in three cartridges. This ensures that when one cartridge is being cleaned, the other one is clean and dry, ready to be used at anytime while the third one is in the canister.
The unique Power Kleen Gravel Washer in the
marineland 350 filter
uses a unique gravel siphon cleaning process. The gravel washer is put into the filter’s water intake pipe in the aquarium. It is possible to insert the cleaner with the canister still running but extra care should be taken not to allow air into the hose pipe.
To eliminate the need to keep on replacing water in the aquarium, debris and dirty water in the gravel are sucked by the Kleen Gravel Washer into the tube. The water is then passed through the micron for cleaning before it is pumped back into the aquarium.
Maintenance of the canister is made easier and faster by the installation of quick-disconnect valves on the hose lines. When buying the marine 350 filter there are two packages; the standard package and deluxe package. The difference is that the deluxe package contains the quick-connect valves while in the standard package the valves are bought separately.
Replacing parts in this filter is very easy since all parts of the magnum 350 filters are readily available from Marineland and Aqua inc. All the other accessories including the micron cartridge, media container, filter sleeve and carbon are all sold separately.
During cleaning of the cartridge, the impeller magnet at bottom of the canister can be damaged, if gravel and sand particles get into the canister. Extra care should be taken to avoid damaging the impeller. Once damaged, the unit becomes noisy and the only way to repair it is by replacing the impeller.
