Technique on the kick bass drum?
i wont get my kick pedal until next month, right now im practicing my beats. Is it correct if i use more than my ankle to stomp the ground. my whole leg goes up and then down

I assume then that you're a rock drummer?
Here's the rock drum bass pedal technique to keep you playing and not hurt as much.....
-Sit higher on your drum throne (adjust your seat so your legs form an obtuse angle at the knee. Basically, just keep the angle more that 90 degrees but stay comfortable.)
-Put your toes a little above the center of the pedal (more towards the beater end).
-Lift your heel (what I mean is don't let your heel touch the pedal or plate. DON'T make it look like you're standing on your tiptoes!!)
-To play the drum, lift your entire leg from the HIP and drop it back down. That's it. Make sure that the pedal beater STAYS ON THE HEAD and doesn't bounce around after the note. One FAT, SOLID, "POOM".
-Now instead of "lifting" your leg, try to "bounce" it up from your toes. This is why it's important to keep the heels off the pedal and to keep the pedal beater ON the head.
-Try also not to let your foot leave the pedal. Ultimately, it probably will but the point is, you don't want it to "completely" leave the pedal.
This technique allows you to play louder, and use less energy. You're letting gravity work for you by "pulling your foot down" instead of you trying to "lift your leg up". It also gives you that "thud" that rock drums have on your bass drum.
This is a "starting point". You will eventually get your own style and technique that works for you.
You can play heels down and have your shin work but you shin will hurt if you play a lot of notes. You also won't have that "punch" that you get from the technique I described above. That doesn't mean that it's not "right". Like I said, you'll make your own technique eventually which may (or may not) include "heel down" technique or even "jazz" technique.
I'm sure youtube has some vids with the pedals in view. Start with what I gave you and branch out from there.
