On my snare drum, when the strainer is up all the way, the snares aren't tight enough, how do I tighten them?
On my snare drum, when the strainer is up all the way, the snares aren't tight enough, how do I tighten them? This is a Ludwig snare drum from a Ludwig Accent CS drum kit, and whenever i pull the strainer up all the way, the snares aren't tight enough on the bottom head, so it raddles a lilttle bit and when i tap the drum lightly, the snares don't react so it sounds like they're off.
Undo the screws that hold the strainer's strings or wire or plastic strip in the strainer's clamp. Preferably the side that's opposite from the lever. The lever on your strainer should have a screw adjustment that you can tighten. Tighten it all the way. Make sure you do this AFTER you have loosened the screws that clamp the strainer. Open the strainer lever as in the off position Turn the drum over and lay the strainer on the snare (bottom) head. Pull the strainer's strings or wire or plastic strip snug and re-tighten the screws on the clamp. Make sure the strainer lever stays in the open (off) position. You might have to tape the lever in the off position because there'll be no tension to hold it in place. Turn the drum back over to the upright position. You should now have more adjustment leeway. You can loosen the strainer by unscrewing the lever adjustment and tighten it to your preference. Good luck!
