Which brand (Evans, Remo, etc.) would be the best to buy a snare drum head from?
I've been drumming for about two years now, and the snare drum head that is on my (very cheap, yet functional) snare drum doesn't seem ideal anymore. What brand would you recommend and what type of head from that brand would be the most versatile?
Also: I'm only in the eighth grade. I'm looking for something fairly inexpensive that would still serve as a multipurpose snare drum (drum set, practicing, performing, etc.)
It really depends on the style of music you play. I play hard rock/metal, so I use an Aquarian Hi-energy head. This might be good for you if you want a head that will last a while. Even with my hardest playing, it took me over a year to break it. Obviously, this may not be the case with everyone who has used one, but that is my case. It is a thicker head though, so it might not be good for, say, Jazz. Remo Emporer X is another good head for heavy hitting and lasting a while. They both should make even a cheap drum sound a lot better.
