Talking Globe, Reasons Why Kids Should Know About Geography?
I do think, sadly, we're all guilty of presuming that everyone knows all about where they are living, but are not that familiar with where everyone else is from. By way of example, My partner and I not too long ago met a person from Sweden - who was absolutely shocked that a few people reckoned there were polar bears strolling around on the high streets of the towns in Sweden and that the capital city was Denmark... but then again she herself had no clue what the capital city of Bolivia is (we met in South Africa, both backpacking to expand our perspectives) it rather quickly became apparent throughout our travels that there was a basic lack of geographical knowledge and it made me wonder, would a talking globe have been a benefit to all of the people we met when they were growing up? I would say the answer is a definite a yes!
Regrettably, one particular nation that is well known for its very poor knowledge in geography is The USA, where apparently 6 out of 10 people are unable to find Iraq on a world map - a nation that has been in the headlines more than enough to be well known by most people in the USA you'd have thought. It is also fairly common for US citizens to think that Europe is a single nation, not many distinctive ones!
I wish my mum and dad had been more clued up with what the planet looks like and exactly what countries are where - they're still totally unaware! Regardless of all my travels and efforts to update them with the transformations in the world. I think, if they'd educated me more (and had the information to do so), I may have been much more understanding during my early backpacking years, to the needs and cultures of people in other nations. It might also have made it less complicated for me to explain to them why I needed to go traveling and explore the entire world on my own, personal terms!
My grandfather had an old world globe in his lounge, it was and still is one of the most exquisite ornaments I have ever seen, simply because it represented the planet to me when I was a youngster. Not surprisingly, it was very old and out of date and I was not permitted to touch it.
Then when I had kids of my own, I chose to encourage them into geography and to never keep this incredible knowledge from them. I found the idea of a talking globe to be amazing - an opportunity to teach and have fun at the exact same time! I ordered the Vtech Fly and Learn Globe for my little ones and they absolutely adore it. They will pretend to be on a airplane with a friendly pilot who flies them across the world and they discover about all the wonders of the world, the unique dialects and diverse music as they go! Wonderful!
Another Talking Globe I purchased is the Oregon Scientific Smart Globe Deluxe. It is fantastic for the entire family, as it provides challenging quiz games and interactive lessons as well as a facility to update straight from the World-wide-web.
It is amazing how much owning a Talking Globe has transformed our family - my kids now know all about the places I have been to, and which ones they would like to check out when they are older. It makes it possible for them to dream and envision that they are flying around the globe - what more could you possibly want?
